Course description

English 103 – Advanced Course

Looking for the right course? If you are not a beginner and the intermediate class is just too easy, then this advanced general English course may be perfect for you!

As your English skills improve, you may find yourself above the intermediate level and beyond the level of other English language course providers. This course aims to fill that gap. Focusing on spoken and written English for work, further education and general language skill development, English 103 – Advanced responds to the needs of individual students. Over eight weeks, the course will review and extend your existing English language skills through interesting, practical and enjoyable learner-centered activities.

If you want to learn Advanced general English in Sydney, this course is for you.

Who should attend?

This advanced English course is for adults learning English as a second language. Students must have completed at least one course of English 102 – Intermediate (or equivalent), and will be ready for advanced language skill development.

Agenda

There is a need in our community to provide an English class for developing proficiency for English as a Second Language learners who find themselves above the intermediate level. These learners may need general or specific elements of English to interact in our English speaking society. Having a ‘flexible’ class has the potential to support, encourage and enhance a learner’s present proficiency.

During the course the intention is that all or some of the following will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class. Your tutor will discuss any potential changes or revisions proposed to the course agenda.

  • Your ability to speak and write using appropriate grammar and vocabulary; usage and quality pronunciation will be enhanced.
  • Every learner at this level will benefit from this course with individual attention given to each student.
  • You will expand your vocabulary and learn about Australian culture.
Objectives

The objectives of this English 103 Course will relate to the individual student more than a pre-determined set of objectives that may not suit each learner’s needs. While the learners often have unique needs, they also require similar learning elements. With thoughtful preparation, individual and whole group needs can be bridged. By the end of the course, students will have practiced and improved speaking, listening, reading and writing in a variety of contexts.
