English 102: Intermediate Course

Learn to perfect your English skills with our English language courses in Sydney.

Are you ready for the next step? This Intermediate general English course is designed to allow students to move to the next level with their English language learning. Over eight weeks students will improve their skills and gain confidence in what they already know through conversation, listening, reading and writing.

Please note that we currently offer two types of courses – class room and live online via zoom platform!

Outcomes

During this intermediate English course students will:

  • gain enough practice and experience to speak and write English with confidence
  • have improved their speaking, listening, reading and writing
  • have improved their English for a variety of contexts and situations necessary for everyday use.

Ideal for

This Intermediate English course is for adults learning English as a second language. This course is set at an intermediate level. Students must be able to communicate in English information about their lives, family, home country and interests. Students may attend this course more than once until they feel ready for the Advanced course.

Content

If you want to learn and improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English, then this course is for you.

During this intermediate English course, the intention is that all or some of the following will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

  • Conversational English (including colloquialisms, idioms, and Aussie expressions)
  • Listening practice (including short transcription practice for intensive listening and accurate understanding)
  • Reading a variety of texts of interest to the students
  • Writing for a variety of purposes, depending on the needs of the class
  • Grammar, vocabulary extension and individual help with pronunciation as needed
  • Option: Oral presentation. Students who would like to will have the opportunity to prepare and give a short informal talk to the class

Students are encouraged to actively participate in the selection of topics and learning materials during the course.

Please bring to class

  • a pen and notebook
  • an English dictionary
  • a display folder A4 for worksheets

Do I need to buy a textbook?
No textbook is required as tutors provide all materials. However, if you want to buy a dictionary, ask your tutor at the first class which dictionary they recommend.

Abbeys Bookstore (131 York Street, Sydney) is close to our CBD campus and offers a 10% discount to Sydney Community College students.
