Learning outcomes

By the end of this English Pronunciation Skills Course, you should be able to:

  • identify the sounds in English you find difficult to pronounce
  • learn techniques for pronouncing those sounds
  • identify and practise English conversation using correct stress and rhythm
  • identify and practise the tonal changes of English.

What will be covered in this English Pronunciation Skills course?

During this course, the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

  • Learn the sounds of English - vowels and consonants;
  • Practise the sounds of English;
  • Understand how syllables and stress work in English pronunciation;
  • Practise word and sentence stress in conversation and getting your message across;
  • Learn to speak smoothly - contractions and linking;
  • Practise speaking with English rhythm and intonation.

Who is this English Pronunciation Skills course for?

This course is for intermediate to advanced English skill levels. This course is for those who are learning English as a second language.

  • Requirement: A device and stable internet connection.


No textbook is required as tutors provide all materials. However, if you wish to purchase a dictionary, check with your tutor on the first day of class as to what they recommend.
