Course description

Intro to Improv classes in Sydney CBD

Think on your feet! Have fun and learn the fundamental skills and principles of improvisation, as seen on shows like “TheatreSports”, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” & “Thank God You're Here”.

We always seek to create a playful and supportive, you-can-do-no-wrong environment in our classes. Our aim is always to coach our students to success.

This is a fantastic course to: build confidence, improve your presentation and audition skills, learn basic theatrical concepts, listen to and connect with other people, as well as spark your imagination and expression in an entertaining and interactive atmosphere.

Ideal for

All levels of experience welcome – no previous improvisation or drama experience required.

Course content
  • Listening skills
  • Naming characters, objects, and locations
  • Creating an environment, character, objectives, and character status for a scene
  • Endowing Characters
  • Physical and emotional endowment
  • Establishing a narrative
  • Advancing and extending ideas
  • Basic Stage technique and stagecraft

This course may be slightly adapted to benefit the needs and interests of the class.


By the end of this course you will:

  • have an understanding of improvisation terminology
  • have an understanding of how verbal or physical offers are used in improvisation
  • have an understanding of how scene narrative is used in improvisation
  • have an understanding of creating an environment for a scene
  • understand how to accept, extend and deal with offers in improvisation
  • understand how to name characters, objects and locations in an improvised scene
  • understand how to combine physical and verbal offers in an improvised scene
  • have an understanding of character status
  • understand how to find the focus of an improvised scene
  • have an understanding of character objectives
  • understand how to identify scene objectives in improvisation
  • have an understanding of the basics of stage technique and stage craft
Other information
  • Students should wear casual clothes with covered shoes, and bring a water bottle.
