Learn how to use social media with our free Tech Savvy Seniors courses in Sydney!

Social Media describes a very broad category of websites that let you connect to family, friends, loved ones, or interest groups anywhere in the world. Sites like Facebook and Twitter let you and others share what’s happening in your lives. Other sites like YouTube and Flickr allow you to share videos or photos privately or with a worldwide audience. Video conferencing platforms like Skype and Zoom let you converse face to face with people in real-time – and for free!

This Tech-Savvy - Introduction to Social Media course is free, short, and friendly structured. It is one of a series of courses designed for people 60 years and older that will open the door to the world of digital technology.

Tech Savvy Seniors Course is a government-funded program designed to assist seniors to acquire the basic technical skills required in everyday life in the digital age.

This ”Introduction to Social Media” course is designed for complete beginners as well as current users of social media who want to know about the many facilities and features on offer. It takes you through the popular social media sites, what they offer and how to customize the many settings to suit your desired level of privacy and security. Why do some people use Twitter a lot and others prefer Facebook? How can I connect to an old friend whom I know is on Facebook? How do I make free video calls overseas? Is social media as bad as some people say? Is it secure? Who can see my activity? How can I turn off the nuisance notifications I keep getting?

Don’t worry. The experienced tutor uses simple relatable language and you will do simple exercises that will build your confidence.

This and other courses in the series are designed to assist you with 'everyday' tasks such as communication, social media, online safety awareness, entertainment and simply keeping your documents and correspondence organised.

These workshops are supported by the Department of Family and Community Services, State Training Services, and the Department of Education and Communities.
