- Basic colour theory and mixing
- Tone
- Composition
Some of the following techniques may be covered in the workshop:
Blocking-In: Start by blocking in the basic shapes and colours of your landscape using large brushes and broad strokes. This helps establish the overall composition and acts as a foundation for your painting.
Layering: Acrylic paints are known for their quick drying time, allowing you to layer colours relatively easily. Start with lighter tones and gradually build up layers of paint, adding depth and texture to your landscape. Allow each layer to dry before applying the next.
Wet-on-Wet: This technique involves applying wet paint onto a wet surface. It creates soft, blended edges and smooth transitions between colours. Blend and manipulate the wet paint directly on the canvas using brushes, sponges, or even your fingers.
Dry Brushing: Dry brushing involves using a brush with very little paint on it. By applying light pressure and using quick strokes, you can create texture, highlights, and fine details, such as grass, foliage, or tree branches.
Glazing: Glazing involves applying thin, transparent layers of paint over dried layers. This technique allows you to create luminosity and depth by building up layers of colour. It's particularly effective for capturing atmospheric effects, such as mist or sunlight.
