If you are new to acrylics, you will learn about materials and techniques, composition, colour mixing and how to transform a drawing into a completed painting.

For more experienced painters, this course will be refreshing while extending your knowledge of painting and presenting plenty of new challenges.

The aim of this painting course is to develop your creative potential and painting style with expressive acrylic painting!

This course is designed to be ongoing, with students encouraged to re-enrol as many times as they like to continue improving their painting skills. Your teacher will structure each session to suit all levels of experience in the group.

What will be covered in this acrylic painting course?

  • Understand the special qualities of acrylic paints from watercolour to impasto effects
  • Explore the various mediums for special effects
  • Choosing, using and looking after your tools – brushes and supports
  • Colour theory and mixing plus an exploration of the expressive and descriptive use of colour
  • Explore the use and qualities of transparent and opaque colours
  • Understand tone and its importance to the structure of a painting whether abstract or naturalistic
  • Compositional elements using colour, tone, positioning, perspective and painting techniques
  • A look at paintings, both modern and traditional, for their structural and expressive elements
  • An assessment of our own personal style and how to develop it more fully
  • Finding interesting subject matter to explore and interpret
