Course description

Learn to speak Cantonese in Sydney with this Level 2 continuer’s class.

Whether you want to learn Cantonese language for business, travel or just for fun, you’ll take your skills to the next level with this informal, practical and interactive course in the Sydney CBD.

This Level 2 course will consolidate what you have learned and help you expand your vocabulary, grammar and understanding of the language. The course provides new situational topics to give you a wider vocabulary and opportunities for further speaking, listening, cultural understanding and use of the written language.

This course is suitable for:
Students who have completed approximately 20 hours of previous learning in Cantonese, for example ‘Cantonese Level 1’.

Learning objectives

By the end of this Cantonese (102) Level 2 Class you will have learned how to:

  • speak more confidently with better pronunciation and extended vocabulary
  • use a more complex shopping vocabulary, comparing prices and using higher numbers (for example, buying furniture)
  • talk about getting around with different modes of transport, etc
  • use conversational skills to solve problems, ask questions and exchange points of view according to Chinese etiquette
  • recognise and write more characters.

You will also have the opportunity, through classroom activities, to work with other students to practise pronunciation, conversation and gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and csutoms.

The textbook costs approximately $75, and includes two audio CDs.

You can purchase the textbook from Abbeys Bookstore (131 York Street, Sydney). It is close to the CBD campus and offers a 10% discount to Sydney Community College students.

Please note: sometimes a course start date is postponed until there are enough enrolments. It is therefore wise to purchase your textbook after your course has been confirmed (usually within three working days of the proposed start).
