Sylvia Murray

Sylvia Murray

Sylvia discovered her love of craft at just five years old and began learning to sew on her mother’s old Singer machine by the age of ten. By eleven, she was already making her own clothes. For her 18th birthday, her parents gifted her a Bernina 830 sewing machine—still her faithful workhorse today, despite now owning five machines!

In 2002, Sylvia fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing a patchwork and craft shop, where she developed her business skills and deepened her passion for patchwork and sewing. During this time, she also taught patchwork classes that became a favourite within the local community.

Later, Sylvia worked as a Leisure Learning Co-ordinator for a not-for-profit community organisation, where she discovered how much she loved teaching and sharing creative skills with others. Since then, she has taught a wide range of sewing and patchwork classes, helping students build confidence while developing practical, creative skills.

Sylvia is known for her warm, patient, and encouraging teaching style. Her classes are hands-on, relaxed, and supportive, creating a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, learning at their own pace, and enjoying the creative process.
