How to use WordPress to build beautiful websites, quickly and effectively in this Sydney CBD course.

Learn the skills and know-how of creating your own easy-to-update website, blog and shopping cart at this hands-on course. You’ll learn how to customise and publish a website, integrating to your social media, using WordPress.com (no coding required). You’ll learn about search engine optimisation and making your site device-responsive. The course will then take you through the more advanced features offered by Wordpress.org, with self-hosting, more advanced plugins and security. Whether you want to be able to edit WordPress content or develop your own WordPress site, our course will teach you the skills you need.

Sick of online learning? This course gives you the face to face experience working directly on your own project with an industry professional. Work in a fun and engaging environment with other like minded students, gain contacts, insight and constructive feedback all in a compact short course.

  • Moving to a self-hosted site, including domain names and hosting
  • Plugin essentials – for security, ​speed, backups, ​SEO and customisations
  • An ​introduction to available ​advanced plugins, including e-Commerce ​and email marketing
Why WordPress?

WordPress is a free and open-source content management system. It is used by millions of people around the world to create engaging websites and blogs. Originally a blogging software, it is now used by most people looking to build and maintain their own web presence and has no real limit as to what can be done with a bit of learning.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this WordPress training course students will have enhanced web skills through knowledge and use of WordPress from installation and set-up, content management and platform functionality.

Students will:

  • Understand the options available using WordPress.com and WordPress.org for their professional or personal needs;
  • Have ​set up a self-hosted ​five-page website ​including pages, posts and contact form
  • Have developed both a blog and a five-page website using WordPress.com;
  • Understand how to customise a WordPress website;
  • Know how to make updates to a WordPress website;
  • Be able to create blog posts and push them to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn;
  • Understand security, plugins and hosting options;
  • Know e-commerce essentials and their application;
  • Have the confidence to create responsive commercial content for customers and clients.
Other information
  • Please bring a notepad, pen and USB key with any content you wish to put on your site.
  • Programs will be provided in class for you to save on your USB.
  • This course is held in our computer room using 27" iMAC computers. If you may prefer to bring and work on your own laptop you are welcome to do so, however, the tutor may not be able to solve all technical problems in class related to your computer.
  • Participants are responsible for the cost of Domain name ($10 - $20) and hosting ($40 - $60/year). Free themes and plugins will be demonstrated and participants may choose to purchase a premium theme ($60) or plugins.
