Course description

Learn philosophy and philosophical concepts of world religions in Sydney.

This course over seven classes aims to assist students to gain an understanding of the major World Religions from a philosophical perspective. This course will examine in turn the fundamental ideas of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. The course focus will be on an explanation of the basic ideas, followed by a critical examination of them.

Comparisons will be drawn between these world religions as to the explanation of basic ideas – such as the nature of the spiritual realm, the human mind in relation to the body, God and the Universal Consciousness, life after death, heaven, hell and nirvana, karma and reincarnation, of free will and fate, of human suffering and of spiritual awakening and illumination. There will be an examination of the works of major figures such as Moses, Jesus Christ, Mohammad, Brahman the Buddha.
