Learn about pottery, wheel throwing, and ceramics with our Pottery classes in Sydney.
In this Wheel Throwing for Beginners course, you will be introduced to throwing, trimming and glazing techniques.
You will be taken through the different steps of wheel throwing methods such as centring, opening and pulling and shaping your pottery. Learn how to plan and execute trimming excess clay from the bottom of your pottery. Practice your body and hand coordination and find out how to glaze and decorate your pottery design.
Come with a readiness to learn and to get your hands dirty, and you will go home with a beautiful piece designed and made by yourself.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, you will have learnt how to:

- centre, open and pull your clay
- trim your pottery
- use underglazes and glazes to decorate your pottery

Please note, there is 2 hours free street parking on Hayberry street, a 1-minute walk from the studio, available, as well as 2 hours free parking at Woolworths across the street from the studio.
COVID-19 PROCEDURES IN THE STUDIO TO KEEP US ALL SAFE
- The hand-sanitizer and handwashing available at the entrance to the studio.
- All classes are running with smaller numbers to accommodate 4m2 / person requirement.
- All pottery wheels have been placed in 1.5 metres distance from each other.
- Everyone is asked to place all tools they have used during the class in a container with disinfectant.
- Everyone is asked to use disinfectant wipes to clean the glaze containers before placing them back on shelves.
- Everyone is asked to spray disinfectant over their work area after they have cleaned it.
- All aprons provided by the studio get washed after each use, or alternatively you can bring your own apron.
- Recycled clay stays untouched for longer than a week before getting used again.
- Please don’t forget to enter your phone number and email address when you enrol.
Other information
- Please don’t wear your best clothing! Clay will wash out, but it’s better to wear some older clothes
- If you have long hair, please tie it back
- Wear closed-in shoes
- Nails need to be trimmed
- You will need to return a week after the last class to collect your pieces. You will be able to discuss this with your teacher
