Learn how to sing with our Music and Singing courses in Sydney.

Basic techniques of voice production are explored in a group setting. The aim is to help students develop vocal freedom and increase their confidence in their voice and how to use it. Singers will learn how to utilise the whole body efficiently to make singing easier and more enjoyable!

This fun eight-week course combines the practical with the technical – all designed to help you make the most of your voice. The first four weeks will be spent learning basic techniques, while the second four weeks will be focused on performance skills with an aim for each student to perform an individual piece of their choosing in the final week. The classes are more than a singalong group, students will learn solid vocal concepts covered in private singing lessons.

Each class has:

  • technical/musical ideas to explore and learn
  • a chance to ask questions about singing
  • practical application of class ideas
  • singing of songs in a group setting

Please note that we currently offer two types of courses – classroom and live online via zoom platform! The online class is a live and interactive but modified online version of the face-to-face class previously offered by the College. Some outcomes may not be achieved. For example, group singing will be replaced with 'individualized vocal confidence'

Course testimonials:

  • said: Luke was an excellent teacher. Incredibly knowledgeable and helped me understand how to get the most out of my voice. I'm really glad I took this course.

  • said: Good teacher, uses positive reinforcement well, good balance between practice and theory. Draws upon own experiences well to help students. Presentation of written materials might benefit from some polishing but are still appropriate and useful. Really enjoyed the class and would happily recommend.

  • said: I'm getting better with my singing pitch!

  • said: Luke explained the technical aspects of singing in simple terms allowing participants to develop their vocal ability. He created a supportive environment to enable each student to feel comfortable and confident singing solo. We all agreed a beginners choir might be a good follow on course to put our new found knowledge into practice.

  • said: Loved this course. Went in thinking I could never sing in front of an audience but finished with a solo performance. Who would have thought it! Luke was a great teacher. Just the right mix of theory and practice and lots of fun. He made it non-threatening and encouraged all students to do their best and gave constructive feedback to each of us. He is a very generous person both with his time and with his knowledge. I would recommend this course for anyone who just loves to sing for the sake of it. The class thought it would be good to follow this with a choir just for beginners, nothing too serious, just a chance to practice and have some fun. I understand there is already a college choir but it is by audition only and seems to be classical. I'm looking for something a bit less formal. I hope the college takes on this suggestion. Luke said he would be prepared to lead it if there was enough interest and the college was happy to do it.
