Portrait Drawing Workshop

What you'll learn

Learn to draw portraits with our drawing short courses in Sydney!

The human face has been a source of inspiration and challenge to artists through the ages. We humans are biologically drawn to connect with faces and the feelings they convey, so portraiture is a time-honoured artform in drawing, painting and sculpture.

Join us for a day in the art studio to learn and practise the drawing principles for capturing a likeness in the human face. Whether you are drawing for the very first time or have some experience, this workshop will help you gain and develop skills and techniques to draw faces.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this portrait drawing workshop, beginners should be able to:

  • understand the basic anatomical structure of the human face and head
  • use basic portrait drawing techniques
  • set up a model to take the best advantage of their expression and unique presence

Students with more advanced drawing skills should also be able to:

  • demonstrate a range of portrait drawing techniques
  • draw strong relationships between basic anatomical structure and the observed human face
  • relate a pose to the composition to convey expression and unique presence.
