Achievements
Since Fang Zhao has been in Australia, she's become a NAATI-approved and qualified interpreter and Justice of the Peace. She's also completed a Certificate in Career Development Program training course and a nationally recognised course in negotiation and crisis intervention. Further to these achievements, she won a Salvation Army Employment Plus staff award.
Experience
Fang Zhao has been teaching Mandarin to adult English speakers in Australia since 2001. Some of her students are currently working in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan - and some of the students are currently undertaking other courses at universities in China. Many students are now able to communicate in Mandarin at a business level to their customers, clients, supplies, colleagues and friends.
Teaching style
Because of her deep understanding of adult learning principles and exceptional teaching skills, Fang Zhao is able to meet the diverse needs of individuals, as well as the specific needs of each student. Her teaching style brings together the experience and skills acquired from teaching chemistry and mathematics in China, with her rich local and community teaching and training experience.
Something unique
Fang Zhao is a good example of learning a second language as an adult. Now a NAATI-approved and qualified interpreter, she couldn't speak much English when she arrived in Australia. When teaching the language, she highlights how to use it appropriately in different situations. Having worked for a government department, as well as a university in China, she's fully aware of Chinese culture in business, academia, and everyday situations.
