Matthew Jones

Matthew Jones

About Matthew Jones

Matthew Jones is an Egyptology specialist and experienced educator with a passion for bringing the ancient world to life for contemporary audiences.

He holds a Master of Arts in Egyptology from Macquarie University, where he developed a detailed understanding of Ancient Egyptian history, religion and culture. His studies explored the evolution of Egyptian civilisation, from the early dynastic period through to the New Kingdom, with particular interest in belief systems, funerary practices and the role of the pharaoh.

Matthew combines this academic expertise with extensive experience designing and delivering learning programs for adult audiences. Over a long career in global organisations, including senior roles at international law firms, he has developed a strong ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, structure engaging learning experiences, and connect with learners from diverse backgrounds.

His teaching style is thoughtful, structured and accessible. He focuses on storytelling and context, helping students understand not just what happened in Ancient Egypt, but why it mattered and how it shaped one of the world’s most enduring civilisations. Sessions are designed to encourage curiosity, discussion and deeper engagement with the subject.

Matthew’s longstanding personal interest in ancient history, combined with his academic training and teaching experience, enables him to present Egyptology in a way that is both intellectually rich and approachable.
