My teaching style –
The nuns at my high school wanted me to be a teacher but at that stage I wanted to embark in other directions. However, since I have been teaching aerobics, I have found how rewarding it is. I have often received feedback from students that I am a good teacher in that I give the student the incentive to want to learn and do more and I think this is a very important point. It is rewarding to hear a student announce that, at the beginning, she did not think she would be able to complete the session but, after a few weeks, loved every minute of the class.
Apart from the obvious benefits of gaining fitness, strength, muscle definition, loss of weight, etc. I advise my students that the aerobic class is also ‘time out’ and that they are not thinking about anything else while they are in class, except doing something for themselves and having fun.
My teaching style is half freestyle half choreographed, which enables me to monitor the class according to the students’ acceptance of what I put to them. I encourage the students to interact with each other, which also adds to the enjoyment of the class.
