Biography:
Jennifer Crone’s poetry collection Our Lady of the Fence Post will be published by University of Western Australia Publishing in October 2016. Her poetry has been previously published in Southerly, Hermes and A Sudden Presence: Poetry from the inaugural ACU Literature Prize for which her poem ‘Three Peach Roses, San Salvador’ was shortlisted. Her essays on topics ranging from courtly love poetry to the popular ballads of C. J. Dennis have been published in Southerly and Sydney Studies in English.
Jennifer Crone is currently a post graduate researcher at the University of Sydney studying the poetry of the contemporary American poet Louise Glück, and is a recipient of the university’s John Bell Prize for Shakespeare Studies.
Jennifer came to poetry following a successful career as a documentary filmmaker. Her films screened on ABC and SBS television, and the BBC and Channel 4 in the UK. Her 2012 documentary, ‘Divorce: Aussie Islamic Way’, was nominated for a Walkely Documentary Award, and invited to the international public television annual conference, Input in San Salvador, and the India International Centre, Delhi, where it opened ‘Stories from Australia – A Festival of Award Winning Films’. Jennifer was a Commissioning Editor of documentary programs at SBS Television, where she had editorial responsibility for work with Australia’s leading filmmakers and commissioned numerous award-winning films.
