Course description

Safe road cycling course in Sydney.

Road Cycling is an exciting sport that can be enjoyed until a late age. As a cyclist, many challenging and fun opportunities will be presented such as charity rides and cycling holidays. It’s a great way to meet people from all walks of life whilst becoming and staying fit.

Riding with a group will help to bring your fitness  to a new level. This course is designed to introduce the novice cyclist to the basics of group road cycling. By the end of the course you will be confident enough to join a cycling club and compete in events.

If you want learn safe Road Cycling in Sydney, then this course is for you.

Course content

During this course the intention is that the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

Week One:

  • The basics of safe group riding
  • Riding in pairs
  • Rolling from the front

Week Two:

  • Repeat of week one

Week Three:

  • The rolling pace line

Week Four:

  • Hill climbing
  • Hill descending

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • articulate safe riding procedures
  • safely ride in pairs
  • roll from the front of a column and rejoin the column at the rear
  • participate safely in a polling pace line
Please bring to class
  • A road bike in safe working order
  • Helmet
  • Cycling clothes
  • Water bottle
  • Sun screen

  • Meet at the Centennial Park Cafe, Centennial Park.
  • For all courses involving physical activity you must arrive by the published course commencement time or the tutor may refuse to admit you into the session. The agenda for many courses involving physical activity starts with an OH&S briefing and/or a warm up and to miss either may create a hazard to you, which might exclude you from participation for the session.
