Course description

Learn photo editing in Sydney with this beginners course.

Learn to edit your digital photos using Adobe Lightroom CC. Your photos don’t always match the scene the way you remember it. But with Lightroom, you have all the tools you need to bring out the best in your photography. Punch up colors, make dull-looking shots vibrant, remove distracting objects and straighten skewed shots. Plus, the latest release includes powerful new ways to create incredible HDR images and panoramas, import and edit faster thanks to performance boosts, and so much more.

Lightroom is a clever and efficient way to enhance and manage your photos all in one place. From the makers of Photoshop, Lightroom lets you edit and improve your images, manages and then stores them. All your images in one place, at your fingertips and easy to find.

This course has been designed for photographers of all levels who use digital cameras to capture and store images. Course participants can start this course with an entry level of experience in Adobe Lightroom, from absolute beginner to occasional user.

No prior knowledge of Lightroom is assumed, and the course will start from the ground up and cover all the editing basics, and then guide you through all of the photographer workflow of image processing for enhanced quality and image management.

The primary focus is on Lightroom’s Library and Develop modules: the global and local adjustment tools, the Lightroom histogram, special effects conversions, corrections and recovery processes that are the essential tools for the modern photographer.

The course will provide you with the essential skills to create and manage the secure organisation and storage of your digital photographs. You will learn how to avoid the great disaster that occurs when computers or data storage devices crash and precious images are lost.

Lightroom has become the tool of choice for the world’s photographers, and the course begins with a thorough investigation of the Lightroom workspace, and from the initial download of images from the camera to the computer, to incorporating non-destructive processes and enhancing the end image quality. Participation in this class allows you to achieve competence in the control of the quality output of your images.

About your tutor

Richard has a long history in photography spanning careers across several industries — from early delights of horticulture and botany, through the creative field of landscape design, to the recent consultancy in the training and assessment industry. Photography has always been there along the way and Richard has recently added a qualification in Photography – the Diploma of Photoimaging to ensure a professional understanding of current developments in the industry.

As a photographer in Fine Arts and Street photography Richard exhibited in 2014 in the Rocks in Sydney, and is participating in the HeadOn Festival in 2015 as an exhibitor in the Sydney Street Photographers Meetup Group exhibition ‘Urban Collective’.

Richard also organises a Meetup Group that is focused on community participation and learning in all aspects of the specialist editing and image management application for photography – Adobe Lightroom.

Important information
  • As students will be working with their own personal images, students are required to bring along their own images on a laptop, to each session (so you can easily take your images home to edit without transferring on/off computers). You will be working on your own laptop in class. There will NOT be other computers available.
  • The student will need to be competent in computer operations. If it is a recently purchased computer, then perhaps a class in computer operations is appropriate, prior to undertaking the Photo Editing course
  • Download and purchase The Photographer Special: Lightroom + Photoshop for a low monthly payment
Feedback From Past Students

"Richard is a great teacher – his teaching methodology inspires way more than the course outcomes of becoming a photo editor but gets you thinking about your photography and creative approach as a whole."

"Richard was enthusiastic, friendly and always ready to answer questions. He also emailed video links to help reinforce what we were learning. A great teacher."

"Great class, enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher. I learned a lot about a program that I had wanted to learn about for a long time. I appreciate that the class was once a week and so we had time to practise what we had been taught. I would love if there was a follow up course..."

"As a user of Adobe Lightroom, there is always so much to learn. Richard covered a lot of material in the 6 weeks
and it was well worth it. As someone more or less self taught, I discovered many ways to speed up my work flow and
simpler ways to do edits with plenty of helpful shortcuts and hints.

I gained a better understanding of many lightroom features I had never used before or had even heard of and feel far more confident in my ability to
make edits and adjustments.

Richard did a commendable job in a short period of a program that may seem intimidating for beginners and covered the topics well.
For those with some experience, the refresher was much needed and help and advice on doing some more advanced edits was well catered for.
I highly recommend this course for both novices and those with experience as face-to-face teaching cannot be beaten.

We were also provided with links to resources and the communication between the students and teachers was excellent.
I love making new friends and the course certainly helped with that too."

"Richard was an enthusiastic presenter and kept the class on topic and clearly has a passion for what he is doing."
