Course description

Learn to draw at this beginners course in Sydney.

Anyone can learn how to draw and our Drawing for Beginners course will show you how!

If you’re an absolute beginner – or a bit of a doodler who wants to sharpen your pencil skills – this course is an opportunity to learn with a small group in a relaxed and casual atmosphere. With your choice of either a 4-week or 6-week course, there will be exercises, demonstrations and discussions throughout, as you gain an understanding of the basics including line, tone, perspective and proportion.

Enjoy learning as you work with a range of drawing materials and different subjects – including a life model at the final class (6-week course only) if your group chooses to do so.

Come along to discover new creative skills and start seeing your world as an artist.

Ideal for…

This course is designed for beginners and students with some drawing experience.

Course content
  • Line and texture
  • Proportion and composition
  • Tone, shape and shading
  • Negative space and perspective
  • Contour and volume
Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will have:

  • learned how to observe objects for drawing
  • practised hand-eye co-ordination
  • an understanding of form and structure in order to simplify your drawings
  • developed practical knowledge of different drawing techniques
  • produced a range of drawings which explore a variety of media
  • learned to create harmony and contrast in your drawings
Materials

Please bring to each class:

  • several pieces of thick willow charcoal
  • 1 x compressed charcoal – square profile
  • 2 x solid (woodless) graphite pencils – 4B and 6B
  • 2 x drawing pencils – 2B and 4B
  • Erasers: 1 x soft white rubber and 1 x kneadable
  • Paper: A2 size cartridge or sketch pad

Please note:Your tutor may request purchase of additional low cost items during the course, specific to the exercises.
