Course description

Learn to draw in Sydney.

Anyone can learn how to draw and our Drawing for Beginners course will show you how!

This course is designed for absolute beginners who want to learn this enjoyable skill in a relaxed and happy atmosphere. There will be exercises, demonstrations and discussions throughout the course. Students will also receive individual attention as much as possible.

As you are guided through a series of structured exercises, you will gain an understanding of the basics including line, tone, perspective and proportion.

Enjoy learning as you work with a range of materials and try different subjects, including one life model (at the end of the course, if your group chooses to do so).

Come along to discover skills you never thought you had and start seeing your world as an artist.

Ideal for…

This course is designed for beginners and students with some experience.

Course content
  • Line and texture.
  • Proportion and composition
  • Tone, shape and shading
  • Negative space and perspective
  • Contour and volume
Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will have:

  • learned how to observe and see
  • practised hand-eye co-ordination
  • an understanding of form and structure in order to simplify the drawing
  • developed practical knowledge of different drawing techniques
  • produced a range of drawings which explore a variety of media
  • learned to create harmony and contrast in your pictures
Please come prepared
  • Several thick Willow charcoal and one Compressed charcoal – square profile
  • Solid graphite pencils – 4B & 6B
  • Ordinary pencils – 2B & 4B
  • Eraser: soft white rubber and kneadable rubber if available
  • Paper: A2 cartridge/bond paper pad

Please note:Individual Tutors may require an additional item or two and will inform you of those items in the first week.
