Course description

Learn advanced skills & games in our Acting – Improvisation Level 3 course in Sydney CBD.

Take your improvisation, TheatreSports & performance skills to the next level.

You’ll learn different ways to create characters, relationships & narrative.

Level 3 includes an informal performance for family & friends.

Ideal for
  • anyone with a basic knowledge of improvisation and/or TheatreSports. There’s an assumption that you have the basic skills and terminology of improvisation covered.
  • New to improvisation? Our Acting – Improvisation classes for Beginners course is a better option. If you’re new to TheatreSports games, our Level 2 course is a better option.
Course content
  • Creating Characters
  • Building Relationships Between Characters
  • Creating longer narrative structures
  • Playing “Open” Scenes (without a game structure)
  • Physical skills: Interacting with environments & objects
  • Endowing of Character & Other qualities
  • Playing Different Genres (Styles)
  • Furthering your stagecraft skills

Some TheatreSports Games we’ll cover:

  • Endowments: Gibberish / Murder / Crime
  • Play In The Style Of
  • Typewriter
  • Prompt / Playbook
  • Status Transition
  • Genre Scenes: Play In The Style OF… / Shakespeare, etc.

This course may be slightly adapted to benefit the needs and interests of the class.

Outcomes

By the end of this course you will

  • have an greater understanding of improvisation terminology
  • have an understanding of verbal and/or physical endowment offers
  • have a greater understanding of creating a narrative
  • have a greater understanding of creating objects and environments
  • have an understanding of how to create and maintain the focus of a scene
  • have an understanding of how to create character objectives
  • have a greater understanding of stage technique and stage craft

knowledge drawn from
many different creative disciplines. They are passionate about improvised theatre, and all regularly perform, direct & produce improvised theatre. Impro Australia’s teachers are state and national champions and have also won awards at international improvisation festivals. Our teachers apply their skill to the classroom to coach our students to success.

  • Students should wear casual clothes with covered shoes, and bring a water bottle.
