Course description

Learn how to make your own kombucha at this practical evening workshop in Rozelle.

Kombucha – it’s totally tasty, very now – and most importantly, it’s good for your guts. Containing antioxidants and probiotics, it’s believed to have many health benefits including improved digestion and enhanced immune function. They say to get the most out of those good bacteria you need a big old daily dose, but many shop-bought kombuchas have added fruit juice and are high in sugar (not to mention that price tag).

So if you’re a committed kombucha consumer – or just curious to find out more – come along and learn how to make it from scratch using fresh and natural ingredients. Plus you’ll come away with your own flavoured creation in a 300ml bottle of Kombucha ready for the second fermentation, plus a 2-litre jar full of the good stuff, along with a scoby and notes to complete at home.

Course content
  • Safe brewing techniques and sterilisation
  • The two fermentation methods: batch and continuous
  • Making your first batch
  • The first stage of fermenting – know when it’s ready to harvest
  • The second stage of fermenting – tailor to your needs or just for taste
  • Creating a fizz (and avoiding explosions)
  • Care for the scoby – maintaining and storing
  • Storing bottled Kombucha

Please note: This course uses tea, sugar (that gets consumed during the fermentation), scoby (a symbiotic colony of friendly bacteria and yeast) and a range of seasonal fruits / vegetables ingredients. We are not able to provide substitute ingredients for people with allergies.
