Course description

Drone Fever? Drones have captured the world by storm changing the video world forever for enthusiast and professional alike. Drones have also had amazing applications in science and technology and have been used in mining, agriculture, construction, real estate and even the courier industry. This course is an introduction to flying your drone safely and comply with CASA drone safety rules. We will take a look at the best quadcopters to purchase for beginners, the basics of manoeuvring around in the air and learn about the intelligent flight modes in some of the market leading drones. This is a weekend course, 1 day classroom and basic flying then a second day out in the field flying and practicing our skills (weather permitting).

This course will enable you to better understand drones, their features and applications in this fast growing industry. It will teach you how to fly a drone safely and legally and most importantly understand CASA requirements on flying drones.


With drone restrictions being reviewed regularly to ensure public safety, anyone looking at flying a drone will need to be aware of the basic rules and comply with basic regulatory requirements. This introductory course is a good start for anyone who needs to be better informed and looking to enter the world of drone flying. Learning how to fly the drone itself is one thing, but you will need to know the protocols used in flying.

What to bring
  • Please bring a pen & paper, tablet or laptop for note taking, PDF’s will be provided of certain documentation
  • On the second day please feel free to bring your own drone but drones will be provided
  • Bring a hat and sunscreen as you will be out in the sun

Please note due to the close proximity of Rozelle to the harbour and the airport our Rozelle grounds fall in a restricted area, subsequently the practical flying day is located in a zone where there is less restrictions placed on flying. This is also weather permitting, if it is raining or too windy the practical session will be postponed and you will be notified.
