Course description

An introduction to BigData course in Sydney.

BigData is everywhere now. You’d be forgiven for thinking BigData analysis is a complex task for only the most technically gifted. But the good news is there are many new tools that are easy to use, require no special prior knowledge and will help you to extract valuable insights from data to help your work.

Join this class for an introduction into the basic concepts of BigData and hands-on experience of data processing as you learn how to import, export and analyse data, produce reports and gain insights from data.

Students looking at starting a career in a field of BigData will learn basics about the tools they will need to master. Those who are interested in working with their own data will master the simplest of the BigData tools and learn how to preprocess their data, analyse it and display the results of the analysis.

This course requires basic knowledge of programming, preferably Java, and some experience with SQL

Course content

Session one - Introduction to main concepts of BigData

  • Learn the basic about BigData

Session two - Introduction to AWS. Hadoop. Hive.

  • Learn how to use AWS
  • Learn your first Hadoop HDFS commands
  • Learn how to process unstructured data stored on HDFS in SQL-like manner with Hive

Session three - Input/Output on Hadoop

  • Learn how to import/export data from/to Hadoop cluster

Session four - MapReduce

  • Learning the meaning of MapReduce
  • Understanding connection between MapReduce and Hive

Session five - Machine Learning

  • Learn how to use existing data processing frameworks to process and analyse data

Session six - Visualisation Dashboards and Cognitive Services

  • Learn to Visualize Data
  • Understand what Cognitive Services are

Sessions will be run twice a week in the evenings over three weeks (2 hours per class – total 12 hours).

Avoid disappointment. Enrol early.
