Course description

Learn art assemblage at this workshop in Sydney.

Free your creativity through expressive movement and assemblage techniques at this workshop to build artistic confidence and discover new techniques.

Using accessible art mediums such as drawing, painting and collage, you’ll work with the group, and then on your own piece, to discover and refine your own personal art style.

During the class you will learn how to manipulate and reinvent materials for texture, how to use a viewfinder for composition, and how to add balance, line, shape and depth to your assemblage artwork. You’ll also learn image transfer techniques and paper preparation.

This course is suitable for both beginners and more experienced students.

Learning outcomes

After this workshop, students will:

  • be able to discuss basic principles in art including line, colour, texture, composition, space and form
  • know how to experimentally manipulate and reinvent materials to create texture and movement in a visual art piece
  • be able to use physical movement and sound to free up creative expression
  • know how to use a viewfinder to assist with composition, shape and line when creating an artwork
  • have experimented with light and shade, proportion and scale to create drama in an assemblage artwork
  • have participated in the creation of a large-scale group artwork
  • have created an individual artwork, based on still life with assemblage.

All art materials will be provided and are included in the fee.

What to bring
  • You may like to bring copies of photos, fabric or paper scraps and other materials to include in your assemblage (optional)
  • Bring an apron and/or wear clothing appropriate for painting
  • Please wear closed shoes
