Course description

Cooking class for people with a disability in Sydney Access2Ed.

Do you want to improve your cooking skills? This course will cover the basic skills in learning how to prepare and cook simple meals in a domestic kitchen. Students will work with a chef in the kitchen and get hands on practical lessons in how to prepare a simple, fresh and healthy meal for the class. Learn how to choose and follow a recipe, measure out ingredients, practice kitchen skills such as chopping, grating, cutting, mixing. Also learn about basic health and hygiene in preparing food. All students will sit down to eat and socialise together in the last part of the session. Clean-up is also part of the learning!

Course content
  • Introduction to some of the methods cooking
  • Step-by-step discussion of the recipes for the workshop
  • Demonstration and hands-on cooking (in small groups) to follow recipes
  • learning how to prepare and cook simple meals
By the end of this course, students will have learned:
  • safe knife handling and cutting techniques
  • basic kitchen organisation and timing
  • To participate in a range of recipe each week
  • To meet others and socialise in a supportive environment

Note:
There will be food to eat during the classes.
We are not able to provide substitute ingredients for people with allergies or food intolerances.

On the day...
  • All participants must wear closed-in shoes.
  • Hair tied back
  • Please wear comfortable and practical clothing for cooking
