Learn to write about your travel with our creative writing courses in Sydney.

The interactive live online course will be delivered via Zoom platform, with a small class group.

So you dream of being a Travel Writer...

Travel writing has a long and distinguished history and today is a flourishing independent genre. The digital age has provided increased opportunities for travellers with a literary bent to publish their personal travel experiences online, and while there’s never been more demand for travel writing, there’s also never been more competition. Whatever form you want your travel writing to take: blog, magazine article or book, you need to be equipped with the skills and knowledge to set your writing apart from the pack.

In this course, you will learn how to research and structure your story, provide detail to bring your story to life, discover travel trends and how to write for newspapers, magazines and blogs. You will be inspired by the greats of contemporary travel writing, get plenty of hands-on experience with in-class and external writing assignments and gain valuable insight into what it takes to be a travel writer. You’ll also produce plenty of written work with feedback provided by your tutor.

By the end of this creative writing course, you will be able to:

  • draw on new knowledge and skills to continue on your travel writing journey independently
  • generate new travel stories tailored for specific markets
  • understand the realities of travel writing
  • access publishing options available to you online and in print form.

Course testimonials:

  • said: The course did push me to try writing travel reviews for a place, a restaurant and an experience. It also gave insights about writing a personal travel blog (my primary interest) to make them more engaging. However the middle of the course lacked structure and content...

  • said: Sarah has amazing insight, provides great assistance which helps develop your skills. She is accommodating, pleasant and positive.

  • said: This course was motivating and focussed my mind- all done with great humour . Thank you.

  • said: I particularly liked being able to study from home, course content and documentation was pitched exactly where I needed it and has provided me with the great foundation and encouragement to continue... and even publish my blog. Keith Whelan is brilliantly entertaining tutor, he made the course enjoyable and a highlight of my week. I would definitely recommend this course to other "wanabe" writers and bloggers and intend to participate in future creative writing courses.
