Guest Speaker - Luke Freeman from Giving What We Can

Most of us want to make a difference. We see suffering, injustice and death, and are moved to do something. But working out what that ‘something’ is, let alone actually doing it, can be a difficult and disheartening challenge. Luke Freeman is Executive Director of Giving What We Can – an organisation advocating for high-impact philanthropy. Giving what we can and the 'Effective Altruism' movement are a response to the challenge. This research field uses high-quality evidence and careful reasoning to work out how to best help others, by ensuring donation dollars have the best effect. It is also a community of people focusing their efforts on the most promising solutions to the world's most pressing problems. Join Luke for a short talk on the power of effective giving and how we can contribute better to the world we live in. Effective giving means, without sacrificing too much, you can make real direct change in people's lives.
