Learn to thrive, not just survive in 2020 with our free workshops in Sydney

There are so many events that have caused great pain during this momentous year, including the bushfires throughout Australia, mass property and wildlife loss, challenging weather events, the COVID-19 pandemic, the recession and all its uncertainties, civil unrest, and global instability.

This four-part series is for any person who feels thrown off-balance by the intensity of change during the year of 2020. Sessions involve discussion openers, group discussions and opportunity for connection and reflection. The facilitator aims to guide participants away from panic and ‘grappling for control’ and towards acceptance, empowerment and pathways to ‘be the change’. This hectic year can be seen as an invitation to transform into our best selves and creators of the world we wish for.

In the words of Epictetus, “it's not what happens to us, but how we react to it that matters.” The challenges 2020 presents us with are yet to be fully realised. In many ways, we are learning about what matters, and many of us are turning from short term gratification and looking for long term satisfaction and contentment. Putting the ever-present uncertainty to the side, and making sense of our lives / our future right now feels difficult. Finding hope and avoiding slipping into negativity seems almost impossible. But is it?

These workshops are designed to support you to move forward with wisdom and compassion, into an uncertain future.

Intended learning outcomes

It is intended that by the end of this series of workshops, participants will be able to:

  • understand and articulate the impacts of uncertainty, both personal and collective;
  • critically evaluate observed reactions to events of 2020, and locate themselves within a range of responses;
  • use tools learned within the course to affect positive personal change;
  • critically evaluate public media and its effects;
  • activate plans for individual action.

Ideal for

If you have been under the weather, feeling isolated, missing your friends and family and too disheartened to turn on the news, then these workshops are designed to give a perspective you may not have considered.
