Course description

If you want to learn social Cha Cha in the Inner West, then this course is for you. This dance is cheeky, fun and contagious. Bring your partner along and your friends and learn to dance the Cha Cha in this easy four week step-by-step course.

During this course the intention is to teach couples a short, easy routine. We will show you how to do the basic steps, teach you how to lead and the all important rhythm and timing so that the couples will feel in sync with one another.


Within four weeks the intention is to cover the topics below but not necessarily in the order given. Due to the variable nature of Adult Education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

Week One:

  • Rhythm, posture and frame
  • Basic Step
  • New Yorkers and spot turn

Week Two:

  • Turning the basic step
  • Alemana Turn
  • Connection with your partner

Week Three:

  • Hand-to-Hand
  • Shoulder-to-Shoulder
  • Revision
  • Amalgamating all the variations

Week Four:

  • Revision
  • Amalgamating all the variations


The intended Learning Outcomes for this course are as follows. By the end of the course, students will have:

  • Learned the basic steps and rhythms
  • Learned to partner dance
  • Completed a short cha cha social routine

Other Information

Be sure to dress in comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes with smooth soles that enable you to move around the floor without sticking. We ask the ladies to wear flat shoes during classes.

NB. We shall use several pieces of music including students' song choices during the four week course.

Whilst the Cha Cha dance class is low impact, we still request you bring to the tutor’s attention, health-related issues or challenges that may affect your safety in relation to weak knees or hips.

All dance classes are active and therefore you must bring to the attention of the tutor any physical or health-related impairment that may affect your safety.

For all courses involving physical activity you must arrive by the published course commencement time or the tutor may refuse to admit you into the session. The agenda for many courses involving physical activity starts with an OH&S briefing and/or a warm up and to miss either may create a hazard to you, which might exclude you from participation for the session.
