Tap dancing is rhythmic, precise and habit-forming – our popular continuing class attracts a happy friendly crowd who keep coming back for more. This is a great chance to refine your technique, learn new steps and explore rhythms.

Suitable for those who have attended classes run over the previous terms or those wanting to brush up on their skills. Explore your inner tap dancer with the help of our teachers in this course.

Ideal for…

Students who have completed Tap Dancing for Beginners or have some experience in tap dancing.

Course content
  • Each lesson begins with a warm-up, flexing the muscles, limbering ankle and knee joints and stimulating breathing, and ends with a cool-down.
  • Tap steps, combinations and simple rhythms are taught and revised at the start of each lesson.
  • A tap routine is taught and practised, with steps added each week until the routine is completed.
  • The routine is practised each lesson and perfected before a new routine is commenced.
  • One complex routine or two simple routines will be completed over the six weeks of the course.

This course may be slightly adapted to reflect the needs and interests of the class.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • develop your sense of rhythm
  • learn basic tap steps
  • integrate steps and movement into a routine
  • perform the routine.
Important information

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Tap shoes are required. These may be purchased at Bloch, 117 York Street, Sydney or online. If purchasing online, measure your foot, as people commonly take a size larger in tap shoes than in dress shoes. If you do not have tap shoes yet, please wear leather soled shoes to the first lesson.

Health and safety

All dance classes are active and it is your responsibility to tell the tutor if you have any physical or health-related impairment that may affect your safety.
Our Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) is a self-screening tool that should be used by anyone planning to increase their physical activity. Designed to help you help yourself, it is a sensible first step if you are planning to increase your physical activity by enrolling in this course. Click here for our PAR-Q.

Please arrive in time for the start of each class, or the tutor may refuse to admit you into the session. Most active classes start with an OH&S briefing and/or warm up. To miss this may create a hazard to you and could exclude you from participation for the session.
