Learn the Food Safety Supervision Skill Set with our training courses in Sydney.
Fee-free for eligible students. This Food Safety Supervision course is subsidised by the NSW Government. Limited places available.
Food safety supervision will give you the competitive edge for entry into tourism, hospitality, catering and some retail organisations.
The skill set provides learners with the skills and knowledge to work hygienically when handling food and to ensure the safety of food during its storage, preparation, display, service and disposal.
Training is one full day at the College’s Rozelle Campus from 9 am to 5 pm.

Learning outcomes
This Food Safety Supervision course will take you through a mix of theory and practical work that will help you to:
- Understand airborne and infectious diseases and follow hygienic practices
- Prepare food safely and store food correctly
- Maintain a clean working environment and prevent risks associated with food contamination
- Follow hygiene procedures and identify food hazards
You will also develop the attributes to help you get ahead:
- An aptitude for following processes
- Attention to detail
- Effective communication skills
What will be covered in this course?
The SITSS00051 – Food Safety Supervision Skill Set, which includes two nationally recognised Units of Competency:
- SITXFSA001 - Use hygienic practices for food safety
- SITXFSA002 - Participate in safe food handling practices
Please note: The units also qualify holders of the Skill Set to train for a Food Safety Supervisor Certificate issued by the NSW Food Authority. The College can assist you with information about this after completion of the course.
This Skill Set can also be credited for completion of other qualifications such as:
- Certificate II in Kitchen Operations
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
- Certificate III in Hospitality
- Statement of Attainment in Hospitality Business Skills

Monday or Tuesday, from 9am to 2.30pm

Eligibility for this course
To be eligible for this course you need to:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia (certain visa holders are also eligible, ask the College for information);
- Be over 17 years old and have left school;
- Be facing barriers to employment and can get a letter of support to verify this (the College can assist with advice).
