Learn to Crochet in Sydney
By the end of the course, you will be hooked on crochet and yarning about it to everyone.
Are you keen to make something that is better for the environment, reusable and actually can be called an up-cycled work of art! Using T-shirt yarn, you will crochet a simple project like a reusable bag or a bowl.
The squishy nature of the yarn makes it a fascinating crochet journey, while gently introducing crochet stitches to you in this class. The yarn and big hook make for fast and easy work, the pattern is simple and uses basic maths to form the shape.
This is an interesting crochet course for those who enjoy something different and out of the box!
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of this course it is intended that learners will be able to:
- hold the hook and yarn;
- demonstrate basic crochet stitches;
- use the anatomy of a crochet stitch to create shape;
- identify and count stitches;
- increase and decrease stitches.
Course content
Sessions 1 to 4: the work is spread over 4 weeks depending on the pace of the students.
- Learn to hold hook, yarn, make a slip knot, commence and make a chain, count the chain;
- Learn to make a circle, join it. Work in the circle;
- Learn a new stitch, practice the stitch;
- Use the circle to make the base of a character;
- Learn to count the base, attach new yarn;
- Work out the mathematics to implement an increase, work the increase and start to make the body of a bag for example;
- Use maths to decrease the work;
- Learn to finish the work, so the top has a clean finish;
- Add features such as handles for a bag or an edge for a finished piece.
Materials provided:
- 1x extra large size crochet hook
- 1x T-shirt yarn cake
- 2x stitch markers
Please bring to class
- tape measure,
- scissors,
- safety pins (5)
- tablet OR pen and notepad for taking notes

Rozelle Campus, corner of Gordon St & Victoria Rd, Rozelle (in the grounds of St. Joseph’s Church). If driving, no entry into Gordon Street from Victoria Road. Last block on your right before Victoria Road. Pedestrian access is opposite Prince Street.
