Extend your skills and tonal expression with our painting short courses in Sydney!

We’re raising the tone at this workshop, with watercolour artist Tony Belobrajdic, on how to create studies and sketches using graphite and water wash.

Through detailed artist demonstration and hands-on practice, you'll discover how to work with graphite stick and pencil to produce a black and white drawing, which is then transformed into a tonal watercolour using just water and brush.

This technique is easier to control than traditional watercolours, producing a simple but striking monotone image, with texture and depth. The technique is great for studies and sketches and can be finished to a very detailed drawing.

What will be covered in this course?

  • Basic drawing methods and composition
  • Sketching out with pencil
  • Using graphite stick for line, shading and highlights
  • Water and brush techniques to add tone and soften
  • Final detailing and charcoal for darkest accents

Please note: Online course is adapted for Zoom delivery and may not achieve all outcomes in the shorter timeframe.

Who is this course for?

All are welcome, but some level of drawing or painting skill is advised.
