Photography Course: Night Photography

View Classes

Learn the skills of creative night photography with our photography short course program in Sydney.

Cities move to a different beat at night. And not just in the sound. Colours are more intense. Mysteries abound, and light can become your hero. This course will introduce you to an aspect of photography that will be a source of endless fascination. There's no need for tripods, cable releases or complicated gear. Today's cameras, smartphones, and tablets can create stunning images under city lights, even when handheld.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this night photography course, we intend that the students will:

  • Become comfortable using your image making gear on city streets at night.
  • Discover the magic of city lighting at night, e.g. light can be a hero in some shots. Learn about light trails and starbursts from street lights.
  • Be amazed when you realise that the lens in the gear you're using can see deeper into the night than your eyes can. Learn how to trust your equipment as it takes you into this twilight zone.
  • Come away from the course with dramatic, moody images you're proud of and excited to show friends and family.

Ideal for

  • Anyone who has a thorough working knowledge of their camera, aperture, shutter speeds, focusing and basic photography principles, or who has completed a beginner's Photography course or similar.
