Be introduced to pottery in our new Pottery & Ceramics Taster Workshop: Hand Building in Sydney!

This is the perfect introduction to clay! Enjoy a fun evening or afternoon working of hand building clay, making, creating, relaxing and sipping, if you like.

This pottery & ceramics - clay workshop gives you the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of clay building while learning how to make a small plant pot or bowl, using the pinch technique.

This is an experience for everyone, no artistic experience is required. We will provide you will all materials and guidance, and you bring whatever you would like to sip on.

By the end of this clay workshop, your best item will be white glazed and fired (2 firings) in the house for pick up at a later date. Any extra work can be fired and glazed for an additional cost.

Conveniently located in Balmain Opposite the London Hotel and a short walking distance from Fr John Therry Catholic Primary, as well as Balmain Public School.

How to get here

  • We are accessible by Bus - Catching the 442 to Gladstone Park and then walking down towards the Balmain East Wharf.
  • We are accessible by Ferry - Arriving at the Balmain East wharf and walking (~15 minutes) or catching the 445 or 442 bus up and over the hill 3 stops.


  • All visitors' attendances will be registered either when booking all workshops online or on arrival using our Service NSW QR code located at the entry registering date and time of attendance.
  • Guests will have their temperature checked and use hand sanitiser on entry, hand sanitiser is available throughout the studio.
  • We ask everyone including staff and contractors, displaying any symptoms of any illness, the flu or Covid_19, or experiencing a cough or fever do not attend the premises.
  • We follow social distancing for all adults, all staff and visiting adults must maintain 1.5m distancing from each other. This extends to adults waiting to pick up students outside the studio, please allow space to ensure safe passing for other members of the community to utilise the footpath and don’t congregate at the door.
    If Government restrictions prevent us from providing a pre booked workshop, your booking will be rescheduled to a later date in the same workshop.
  • Workshops have limited numbers and every attempt is made to seat friends together.
  • The studio premises are frequently cleaned with detergent and then disinfected as recommended in the NSW Health Guidelines. We also limit the handling of shared products during workshops. Equipment used during workshops is also cleaned and disinfected including tables and chairs, door handles, light switches, and bathroom.

We thank you for your continued support and understanding, we are all learning to adjust and work in a world with many changes and limitations, there will be disappointments during these times, as changes may need to be made to our plans with workshops rescheduled or cancelled.

Other information

  • Please don’t wear your best clothing! Clay will wash out, but it’s better to wear some older clothes
  • If you have long hair, please tie it back
  • Wear closed-in shoes
  • Nails need to be trimmed
  • You will need to return to collect your ceramic piece at a later date (approx. 4 weeks after class)
