This online painting course is an introduction to the gentle art of watercolour painting. Learn from your home over 4 calming sessions to gain the basic techniques for the watercolour medium.
You will learn and build on skills in drawing and watercolour painting, with exercises to introduce and develop the techniques, plus plenty of opportunities to practice.
This course is designed to be ongoing, with students encouraged to re-enrol if they wish to continue their learning. Your teacher will structure each session to suit the levels of experience in the group.

- The medium and your watercolour equipment
- Application of pigment and brush techniques
- Rules of watercolour
- Colour mixing
- The interplay of water, paper, pigment & you
- Simple composition in still life and botanical subjects
- The illusion of three-dimension and the role of light and dark
Intended audience
Who is this online watercolour painting course for?
This course is designed for beginners and students with some experience.
Course materials
Option 1:
Purchase a kit at enrolment checkout - make sure we have your address and allow at least 5 working days for delivery.
Option 2:
Uncheck the materials kit at enrolment checkout and bring your own:
- Watercolour paints in a range of colours (Permanent Rose, Cadmium Red, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Pthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue)
- Round watercolour brushes, size 2 and size 4
- Drawing pencil, 2H
- Soft white eraser
- Watercolour paper (Smooth finish, 300gsm, 12 sheets A4 will be ideal)
All students will also need to provide from home:
- A white flat ceramic plate for colour mixing
- Tissues
- A water jar
- A ruler
- Notes/images, emailed before each session, may be printed or viewed on a separate device
