Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Understand the principles and origins of Straight Photography, also known as Pure Photography, with a focus on the use of deep depth of field as employed by the f64 group.
- Master the art of Urban Photography: learning how to capture the elements of the urban environment, including architecture, human subjects, and the dynamics of a streetscape.
- Create Narrative Photography: telling a story through the use of composition, light and shadow, shape, and texture, whether capturing movement or evoking emotion and mood through colour or black and white.
Course content
What will be covered in this photography genre course?
- Introduction to Straight Photography or Pure Photography: The first field trip will take you through Sydney's Hyde Park, where you'll learn how to capture the beauty of the Archibald Fountain, the playful chess players, and the sombre architecture of the Sydney War Memorial and Remembrance Pool.
- Urban Photography in Sydney CBD: The second field trip will take you through the bustling streets of the Sydney CBD, where you'll learn how to capture the elements of the urban environment, such as architecture, human subjects, and the dynamics of the streetscape. You'll visit locations like George Street, Martin Place, Bird Alley, and Pitt Street Mall.
- Narrative Photography: Telling a story through Photography: The third field trip will take you through the textural, open and confined spaces, both old and modern of the Rocks Precinct Sydney where you'll learn how to create a visual narrative through composition, light and shadow, shape, and texture, whether capturing movement or evoking emotion and mood through colour or black and white.
