Course description

Learn to speak French in Sydney with this Level 5 continuer’s class.

Whether you want to learn French language for business, travel or just for fun, you’ll take your skills to the next level with this informal, practical and interactive course in the Sydney CBD.

This Level 5 course will take you further beyond the basics to build your vocabulary and fluency for a more rewarding level of conversation. You will consolidate your understanding of the language and have opportunities to further practise and develop your skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in French.

This course is suitable for:

Students who have completed at least 80 hours of previous learning in French, for example French Levels 1–4 with this college.

Learning objectives

By the end of this “French” Level 5 Class:/courses/learn-languages-sydney-beginners-classes/beginners-french-classes-sydney you should be able to understand and put into practice simple language/expressions used in the following areas:

  • Making and answering phone calls
  • Speaking about recent events (recent past) and future projects
  • Asking for and giving advice (imperative of reflexives)
  • Speaking about events in the past (past of reflexives)
  • Describing people (il est / elle est / c’est)
  • Speaking about the main holidays in France (public & religious)

The curriculum may be adapted slightly to suit the needs of the class. The topics above will be covered during this course, but not necessarily in the order given.

The textbook costs approximately $43, including CDRom. (You may also opt to buy the activity book and audio CD that accompanies the textbook – approx. $30). To encourage learning through immersion in the language, the text is entirely in French, so you may also choose to buy a French/English dictionary or app as an extra learning resource.

You can purchase the textbook from Abbeys Bookstore (131 York Street, Sydney). It is close to the CBD campus and offers a 10% discount to Sydney Community College students.

Please note: sometimes a course start date is postponed until there are enough enrolments. It is therefore wise to purchase your textbook after your course has been confirmed (usually within three working days of the proposed start).
