Course description

Learn to speak Spanish in Sydney with this level 3 continuer’s class.

Whether you want to learn Spanish language for business, travel or just for fun, you’ll take your skills even further with this informal, practical and interactive course in the Sydney CBD.

This Level 3 course will help you go beyond the basics to build your vocabulary and fluency for a more rewarding level of conversation. You will consolidate your understanding of the past and present tense and have opportunities to further practise and develop your skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish.

Ideal for

Students who have completed approximately 40 hours of previous learning, for example ‘Spanish Level 1’ and ‘Spanish Level 2’ or equivalent.

Outcomes

By the end of this class you will have learned how to:

  • describe feelings and express emotions
  • make recommendations
  • ask and respond about reasoning and talk about difficulties
  • read and write a curriculum
  • relate past experiences by recounting a story
  • describe habits and express tastes, preferences and desires
  • make comparisons and give advice
  • ask for permission, favours and provide excuses
  • talk about states of health
  • give instructions on how to prepare a meal
  • understand everyday life and culture in Spanish speaking countries
  • speak more confidently with correct pronunciation and extended vocabulary.

The curriculum may be adapted slightly to suit the needs of the class. The topics above will be covered during this course, but not necessarily in the order given.

The textbook costs approximately $60, including an audio CD. Featuring contemporary Spanish as spoken in both Latin America and Spain, it combines reading and listening material with workbook exercises and grammar.

You can purchase the textbook from Abbeys Bookstore (131 York Street, Sydney). It is close to the CBD campus and offers a 10% discount to Sydney Community College students.

Please note: sometimes a course start date is postponed until there are enough enrolments. It is therefore wise to purchase your textbook after your course has been confirmed (usually within three working days of the proposed start).
