Course description

Learn to speak German in Sydney with this Level 3 continuer’s class.

Whether you want to learn German language for business, travel or just for fun, you’ll take your skills to the next level with this informal, practical and interactive course in the Sydney CBD.

This Level 3 course will consolidate what you have learned and help you expand your vocabulary, grammar and understanding of the language. The course provides new situational topics to give you a wider vocabulary and plenty of speaking and listening practice.

This course is suitable for:
Students who have completed approximately 40 hours of previous learning in German, for example ‘German Level 1’ and ‘Level 2’.
Course prerequisite: students should already understand basic sentence structure; how to form word and sentence questions; the articles, direct and indirect; the conjugation of verbs; modal verbs and their sentence structure; separable prefix verbs and their sentence structure; the accusative and dativ case.

Learning objectives

By the end of this German Level 3 Class, students will be able to:

  • talk about everyday situations at home and work
  • fill in forms and write notes, messages or letters to friends
  • read and write advertisements, greeting cards, postcards, diary entries and emails
  • exchange views, give basic opinions
  • register a complaint
  • use common expressions
  • discuss and read statistics in German
  • react positively and negatively
  • plan a trip and discuss travel and transport
  • discuss future travel plans
  • understand sentences related to areas of most immediate relevance, such as basic personal and family information, shopping, local life and employment.
  • use conversation techniques and skills to solve problems, to accept and refuse an offer or invitation
  • communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters
  • speak more confidently with correct pronunciation and extended vocabulary in topic based conversations and discussions

The curriculum may be adapted slightly to suit the needs of the class. The topics above will be covered during this course, but not necessarily in the order given.

Please note: sometimes a course start date is postponed until there are enough enrolments. It is therefore wise to purchase your textbook after your course has been confirmed (usually within three working days of the proposed start).
