Course description

Learn to speak Thai in Sydney with this level 2 continuer’s class.

Whether you want to learn Thai language for business, travel or just for fun, you’ll take your skills to the next level with this informal, practical and interactive course in the Sydney CBD.

This Level 2 course will consolidate what you have learned and help you expand your vocabulary, grammar and understanding of the language. The course provides new situational topics to give you a wider vocabulary and opportunities to further develop your speaking, listening and reading.

Ideal for

Students who have completed approximately 20 hours of previous learning, for example ‘Thai Level 1’ or equivalent.


By the end of this course you will have expanded your vocabulary and learned how to:

  • read and write basic words in Thai
  • create simple sentences
  • read and pronounce words and sentences correctly
  • use Thai consonants, vowels and tones
  • use the compound word system
  • understand the rule of final consonants
  • speak more confidently with correct pronunciation
  • use conversational skills to ask questions and exchange views appropriate to Thai etiquette
  • have a deeper understanding of Thai culture and customs.

The curriculum may be adapted slightly to suit the needs of the class. The topics above will be covered during this course, but not necessarily in the order given.

The textbook costs approximately $72, and includes downloadable audio files. Used with classroom teaching, the book provides a basic foundation in conversational Standard Thai, using real life daily topics.

You can purchase the textbook from Abbeys Bookstore (131 York Street, Sydney). It is close to the CBD campus and offers a 10% discount to Sydney Community College students.

Please note: sometimes a course start date is postponed until there are enough enrolments. It is therefore wise to purchase your textbook after your course has been confirmed (usually within three working days of the proposed start).
