Sign up for this self-paced online course to learn the basics of contemporary hand lettering using brush pens.

You will receive a home-delivered basics kit and access to 16 quality pre-recorded video lessons. With the lessons and lots of practical exercises, you can experience the calming art of lettering as you learn at your own pace. Also included are 10 weeks of access to the Creative Club for personal support from your tutor, plus a connection to others who are learning and working with contemporary brush pen art and lettering.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this brush pen lettering course, you should have learned:

  • About brush markers & what makes them different
  • How to position yourself and the paper correctly, and how to use a lettering grid
  • About the basic brush strokes, in detail
  • How to link strokes together into the words minimum & maximum
  • How to deconstruct the alphabet letters and numbers by individual strokes
  • To put all of the above together to create a sentence stroke by stroke.

Course content

What will be covered in this online brush pen course?

Over 2 hours of self-paced video learning, the classes will cover:

Lessons 1 to 4

How to set up for your practice, tools required & resources supplied, an overview of the introduction class, favourite tools, hand stretches, and preparing your marker for practice.

Lesson 5

Work your way through the 7 fundamental strokes of brush lettering and build your confidence to tackle the letters of the alphabet.

Lesson 6

Learn how to connect letters correctly with a quick little tip. Construct the words ‘minimum’ and ‘maximum’ out of the basic strokes from lesson 5.

Lessons 7 to 14

Work your way through each letter stroke by stroke. Each lesson contains 3 to 4 upper & lowercase letters only, to ensure that you take your time working through them.

Lessons 15 to 16

How to construct numbers using the basic strokes. Finish off the course with a mini project in Lesson 16.
