Not for profit (NFP) organisations in Australia vary in size and activity and include charities, sporting, education, community service groups and professional associations. Governance knowledge is now an essential component of the operation of these NFPs. This practical course looks at the principles of good NFP governance and how to adopt these into effective practice and continuous improvement. The course is designed to better equip those already in the NFP sector and those considering entry into the sector.

Not-for-profit board members, sporting and social club committee members especially those on the executive.

  1. Good governance and its increasing importance in the Not for Profit (NFP) sector;
  2. The NFP 10 Principles of Good Governance and the ACNC’s 5 Governance Standards;
  3. Turning Principles and Standards into actions – the ‘Board that Works’ Model;
  4. Developing a structured approach for the implementation of actions and for continuous improvement.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this training students will:

  • Have a better understanding of the concepts and issues associated with corporate governance in the NFP sector in Australia;
  • Be able to identify key areas of governance for improvement and how they may be applied within the Meals on Wheels context.
