Are you looking to start a career in retail, hospitality, or customer-related service? Are you between the ages of 17 and 24 years old and have left school and do not intend to return? Are you an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia or a New Zealand citizen? Are you living with a disability and have low to medium support needs?

This fee-free NSW Government subsidised course provides you with the training to achieve a nationally recognised and important set of transferable skills needed to provide quality customer service experiences for clients and customers. From retail and hospitality to administration and office management, you will gain industry knowledge and know-how and learn how to provide quality service for your employment journey. 

What will you learn?

During this course, the following units of competency will be delivered and assessed:

  • SIRXCEG001 Engage the customer;
  • BSBWOR202 Organise and complete daily work activities;
  • SIRXIND001 Work effectively in a service environment;
  • BSBPEF101 Plan and prepare for work readiness;
  • SIRWHS002 Contribute to workplace health & safety;
  • Vocational Pathways (non accredited unit)

Additionally, this course includes the HLTSS00065 - Infection Control Skill Set which was developed in response to COVID-19 which has impacted infection control standards across the country. The Skill Set comprising the unit HLTINFCOV001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures covers the skills and knowledge to decrease the risk and transmission of infection while undertaking your daily duties.

Optional Skill Set: This valuable Skill Set is also available - SITSS00051 - Food Safety Supervision comprising 2 units SITXFSA002 - Participate in safe food handling practices and SITXFSA001 - Use hygienic practices for food safety. Successful completion of this optional Skill Set also qualifies the holder for a NSW Government Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.

Information session: Tuesday 5 October 2021

Course dates and time: Monday & Tuesdays 9.30 am to 12.30 pm commencing on Monday 18 October and finishing Tuesday 7 December 2021.

The location is the College main campus at 2A Gordon Street Rozelle.

Eligibility for this course

This training is funded by the NSW Government and is free to eligible participants. Please be aware that strict eligibility criteria apply and numbers are capped at 12. Fill out the application to check your eligibility and the evidence required to be finished by you to support your eligibility. The College will then contact eligible students for more information. Please note also successful applicants will need to apply for and gain a Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Assessments are made against units of competency from the Certificate II in Retail Services SIR20216.

  • Plan and prepare for work readiness (BSBPEF101)
  • Organise and complete daily work activities (BSBWOR202)
  • Work effectively in a service environment (SIRXIND001)
