Malaysian Cuisine is rich in heritage and heavily influenced by its surrounding countries like India, China and Thailand. In Penang, the streets are covered with food carts offering all sorts of dishes ready for you to eat on the spot such as steaming bowls of noodles, rice dishes wrapped in banana leaf to sizzling chicken satays cooked from a makeshift grill.

About the Chef

Growing up in Penang, Wanitha moved to Australia in 1982. She learned the art of cooking from her father, who he was the Head Chef of the Kedah Royal Family in Malaysia. Wanitha later started her own restaurant and cooking school. She is a real goddess of flavours and spice and with her engaging personality, her positive energy and her incredible knowledge of food she will show you the secrets of Thai cooking.

Please note: Street parking is very limited nearby. You might try St Margaret’s Car Park at 417-435 Bourke Street, Surry Hills. It is a 5-minute walk from the venue, with casual parking rates after 5pm at approx. $4/hour.

On the day...
  • We’ve cut out disposable plastics, so please bring your own food containers to take any leftovers home
  • All participants must wear closed-in shoes – no high heels please!
  • Aprons supplied, but dress appropriately for the kitchen, and tie back long hair
  • Arrive a little early as the class will start on time
