Course description

Learn how to draw in our one-day workshop in Sydney.

In this drawing workshop for beginners you will learn to express your ideas as you learn about composition, line, tone, perspective, texture and proportion with a variety of subject matter.

Come and learn these techniques from our experienced tutor and practising artist.

This course is designed for beginners.

Course content
  • Introduction, orientation and materials.
  • Proportion, planes, volume, tone/shading, continuous line, gesture
  • Composition, negative space, basic perspective
Learning outcomes

By the end of this Drawing Workshop for Beginners Course the you will have:

  • practical experience leading to confidence in the fundamentals of drawing particularly from 3D (Primary) subject matter rather than from photographic reproduction
  • an introduction to materials and techniques
  • developed your hand-eye co-ordination
  • learned perspective, proportion tone and shading and how to create depth
  • some insight into composition and picture making, organising interesting still life sets and other subject matter
  • learned to assess and push their drawing process
  • an understanding of form and structure in order to simplify the drawing
  • insights into how artists see and interpret their surroundings
Please come prepared
  • Willow Charcoal – 2 good quality medium sized sticks (can buy individually from good art suppliers, ) - need to be about same width as regular pencil
  • Compressed Charcoal – 1 stick round profile
  • Pencil – 1 x4B and 1x 6B
  • Cartridge Paper – 4 x A2 sheets and 1 x A1 OR bring an existing A2 sketch pad

  • Lunch can be purchased on Darling Street (10 min. walk) or
  • Bring your own lunch (Fridge and Microwave available)
