We have designed our fabric screen printing course for beginners for hands-on learning. You will explore a variety of hand screen-printing and colour application techniques and create your own fabulous designs on fabric using hand-cut stencils.

This fabric screen printing course will teach you about designs and will give you experience in screen printing with multiple colours. No previous design or printing experience required; these screen printing classes are suitable for everyone.

  • Have experienced screen-printing

Course content

The intention of this fabric screen printing course is to cover the following topics, but not necessarily in the order given:

  • Appreciate the many sources of designs – how to adapt them for printing
  • Preparation and use of the screen
  • Placement prints
  • Multi-colour printing
  • Pattern repeats

  • Printing inks and most equipment supplied.

What to bring

Not required for first class – will be discussed then.

  • A small stencil-cutting knife, e.g. Exacto craft knife
  • Small brushes – e.g. size 0, 2, 4 flat or round
  • 50mm wide masking tape
  • Something to print on, e.g. a white T-Shirt or light coloured cotton fabric which has been washed
  • A few jars with lids for excess ink
  • Protective clothing, e.g. apron or smock
  • Plastic spatulas (kitchen variety)
  • A hairdryer

Extra materials may cost approximately $30.00

Come prepared

  • Please wear closed-in shoes.
  • All printing materials are water-based and non-toxic
  • Drawing, cutting and printing will require a level of skill
