Course description

Learn Flamework and Glass Beads Jewellery in Sydney.

Learn how to make fabulous glass beads for jewellery, fashion or furnishing in this unique course. You will learn the basic skills necessary to create your own unique glass beads by applying the lampwork technique to the melting of Venetian glass rods.

The Glass Beaded Jewellery course is for anyone who is interested in designing and producing their own custom made jewellery. Make it for yourself or create a range to sell through markets or one of the online stores such as

This Glass Art Course will cover many of the basic techniques from spinning a simple bead, shaping and decorative techniques using mutliple rods, raking and feathering, applying silver foil and wire, millifiore, goldstone and frit.

This course is designed for beginners and experienced students.

You will design and make
  • Simple mono-coloured beads
  • Multi-coloured beads
  • Decorative beads – dots, stripes, flowers, tiger beads
  • Shaped beads
  • Themed beads – animals, christmas decorations/trinkets
  • Ornamental beads – lollies
Course content
  • Glass theory
  • Safety in the studio
  • Bead making equipment and how to use it
  • Spinning a simple bead
  • Shaping techniques – cylinders, cubes, perfect round beads
  • Pulling stringers
  • Applying decoration – dots, stripes, layering, gold and silver leaf, wire, flowers, raking and feathering.
Learning outcomes

By the end of this Flamework and Glass Beads Class you will:

  • be familiar with the safety precautions that need to be adhered to in the bead making studio
  • be familiar with bead making equipment and how it is used in various applications
  • be able to make basic beads using various techniques, of a quality which can be used in jewellery application
What we provide
  • All equipment and materials
Please come prepared
  • A postpack tube at least 40 cm long
  • A pair of pliers, cheap ones are fine as long as they have teeth grips
  • A couple of cotton rags
  • A small container to take your beads home in
  • Apron
Other Information
  • Please do not wear loose, flowy sleeves
  • Closed-in shoes required
  • Please wear old clothes
  • Long hair must be tied back
