Learn how to make fabulous glass beads for jewellery, fashion or furnishing in this unique course. You will learn the basic skills necessary to create your own unique glass beads by applying the lampwork technique to the melting of Venetian glass rods.
The Glass Beaded Jewellery course is for anyone interested in designing and producing their own custom made jewellery. Make it for yourself or create a range to sell through markets or one of the online stores such as etsy.com.
This glass art course will cover many of the basic techniques from spinning a simple bead, shaping and decorative techniques using multiple rods, raking and feathering, applying silver foil and wire, millefiori, goldstone and frit.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- follow the safety precautions that need to be adhered to in the bead making studio
- use bead making equipment for various applications
- make basic beads using various techniques, of a quality that can be used in jewellery application

Course content
- Glass theory
- Safety in the studio
- Bead making equipment and how to use it
- Spinning a simple bead
- Shaping techniques - cylinders, cubes, perfect round beads
- Pulling stringers
- Applying decoration - dots, stripes, layering, gold and silver leaf, wire, flowers, raking and feathering
Materials provided
- All equipment and materials
Please bring to class
- A post-pack tube at least 40 cm long
- A pair of pliers, cheap ones are fine as long as they have teeth grips
- A couple of cotton rags
- A small container to take your beads home in
- Apron
Additional information
- Please do not wear loose, flowy sleeves
- Closed-in shoes required
- Please wear old clothes
- Long hair must be tied back
